  • How lean or fat is your ground beef / hamburger meat?

Our ground beef does not contain added fillers. Our ground beef is typically leaner due to its pasture-raised diet.

  • Do you sell dairy products?

We are a dairy farm but we do not sell finished milk products direct to consumers.

  • What do pasture-raised animals eat?

Pasture-raised animals primarily eat grass, natural vegetation, and forage from the open fields or pastures they have access to.

  • Is there a taste difference between pasture-raised and grass-fed beef and pork?

Yes, many people believe there is a taste difference between pasture-raised and grass-fed beef and pork. Pasture-raised animals often have a richer and more complex flavor due to their varied diets, which include grass, forage, and natural vegetation. Grass-fed beef, specifically, is known for its distinct taste compared to conventionally raised grain-fed beef, often described as being leaner and with a more pronounced grassy or earthy flavor. Similarly, pasture-raised can have a unique flavor profile, with a taste influenced by a varied diet of both pigs and cows, including the pig's natural foraging behavior.

  • Does pasture-raised have any unique appearance or texture to it?

Yes, pasture-raised meat can have some unique characteristics. It often appears slightly leaner with meat that has a deeper color, and the texture may be influenced by the animal's more varied diet and natural exercise, resulting in meat that is sometimes considered to be firmer or more textured compared to conventionally raised counterparts.

  • Are there benefits to eating pasture-raised beef and pork?

Yes, there are several benefits. Pasture-raised beef and pork are often considered to be healthier as they tend to have lower fat content and a higher concentration of beneficial nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Additionally, pasture-raised animals are typically raised in more humane and environmentally sustainable conditions, making it a more ethical and environmentally friendly choice.

  • Should I cook pasture-raised meat any differently?

Generally, pasture-raised meat can be cooked similarly to conventionally raised meat. However, due to its potentially leaner nature, you may want to consider slightly lower cooking temperatures and shorter cooking times to avoid overcooking. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure your meat reaches a safe internal temperature. The key is to savor the natural flavors of pasture-raised meat, so avoid overly heavy seasoning that could overpower its unique taste.

  • How much freezer space do I need to store meat?

A good rule of thumb is for every 35-40 pounds of retail product meat you will need approximately one cubic foot of freezer space to store the meat. This may vary depending on bone-in versus boneless cuts or any odd shaped packages of meat.

  • Does freezing the meat change the flavor?

Freezing pasture-raised meat should not significantly change its flavor, especially if it's properly packaged to prevent freezer burn. However, freezing can alter the texture of meat slightly due to ice crystal formation. To maintain the best quality, use airtight packaging and consume the meat within a reasonable timeframe to minimize any potential changes in flavor or texture.

  • Is raw honey still good after it crystallizes and can I get it back to a runny consistency?

Yes! Crystallization of raw honey is a natural occurrence. Raw honey has small particles of pollen, beeswax and other nutrients, all of which provide the extra health benefits of raw honey but does lend itself to natural crystallization.

If your honey crystallizes you can revert it back to a runny consistency simple by placing your jar of honey in a bowl of warm water and letting the heat reverse the process. You may need to stir the honey inside the jar to assist in the process. Be patient, depending on the size of the jar this could take around 30-45 minutes. Then enjoy!
