New School Delivery Routes Are Rolling!
We're thrilled to announce that our farm-to-school delivery routes are in full swing—and expanding! Farmer Loren and his trusty sidekick Andy have been on the move, bringing our locally raised beef and pork to even more schools, now including the St. Lawrence and St. Regis-Mohawk School Districts. It's truly heartening to see our food fueling the minds and bodies of children right here in our own communities.
Our mission at Ortman Farms has always been rooted in the belief that healthy soil grows healthy food, and healthy food nurtures healthy people. Seeing that come full circle in school cafeterias, where students enjoy wholesome meals made with local ingredients, is something we're incredibly proud of.
Happy Pigs & Healthy Land
This fall, our 250 pigs are joyfully foraging across our open fields and doing what pigs do best: rooting, exploring, and thriving in a natural environment. Their playful energy is a reminder of why we do what we do. These animals are more than livestock; they are an integral part of our regenerative farming cycle.
Buy Local, Support Local
Speaking of cycles, we're currently spreading what we affectionately call "liquid gold"—our nutrient-rich manure—on our fields. This natural fertilizer is a key component in keeping our soil healthy and productive without relying on synthetic chemicals. It's a perfect example of how sustainability and stewardship guide every decision we make.
Soybeans & Signs of Fall
Our soybeans are still in their growing phase, soaking up the final warmth of the season. The harvest isn't far off, and soon, we'll be firing up the Combine to bring them in. With two mild frosts already behind us and the last of the garden crops being picked, fall is certainly here, yet the warmth of early autumn is still holding on, giving us just a little more time to prepare and reflect.
A Time to Pause
Fall is a natural pause between the hustle of summer and the urgency of harvest. It's a season to breathe deeply, walk the countryside, and enjoy the company of those closest to us. At Ortman Farms, we're taking a moment to appreciate not just the bounty of the land, but the community that supports and benefits from it.
So, whether you're enjoying a farm-fresh meal at school, walking through rustling leaves, or savoring a quiet sunset, know that you're connected to something bigger. From soil to supper, we're all part of the same story.
We need your support...Help us bring farm-fresh milk delivery back to Brasher Falls!
Ortman Farms is raising $40,000 to build a micro-creamery that will let us pasteurize and bottle our own milk, cheese, yogurt, and more, right on the farm. With your support, we can revive local milk delivery and reconnect our community with real, local dairy. Join us in making this vision a reality by donating today and being part of the return to fresh, farm-to-door goodness!
