Welcome to the month of May, where we find that rainy and cool April ushered in some positive changes at Ortman Farms. The liquid manure spreader we recently acquired has been put into action numerous times already. What a benefit to our multiple pastures it will have with the applications of the nutrient rich manure. The crops will grow so much better and consequently be more nutritious naturally for our farm animals.
A Total Mixed Ration (TMR) mixer is also in our future. This will most certainly help in the proper feeding of our cows. TMR is a power food for farm animals. Using a TMR over conventional feeding methods allows the herd to achieve the highest productivity. This substance can be produced by mixing hay, silage and mineral feed into the mixer wagon.
By using the right ingredients in the right percentages a TMR mixer will definitely help our farm animals utilize the food so much better. Consequently their production will vastly improve. A win-win for us at Ortman Farms for sure!

We at Ortman Farms wish to rekindle the valuable relationship of farm fresh food with our customers, delivering locally grown products directly to their home table. We are continually working towards our goal of controlling all stages of the process to one day being able to provide services such as in house high-quality butchering.
The most recent step in this longterm vision was the upgrades to our on site retail store that happened in April. Getting the store in tip top shape for the beef and pork retail business was a dramatic change for the better.

A Family Business Concept
Ortman Farms is a second generation farm that has expanded on the foundations set by Farmers Loren and Cynthia Ortman. The completion of our on site retail farm store in April saw the extremely helpful talents and hard work of three visiting family members; Mallory, Lindsay and Austin. Truly showing that the Ortman Farms enterprise is a collaborative team effort.
