March is here, and while the calendar says spring is on its way, Mother Nature hasn't quite gotten the memo yet. Up here in the North Country, winter still has a firm grip — but that doesn't slow us down one bit. The animals are doing well, and we're keeping busy with the daily rhythm of farm life.
The cattle are spending most of their days in the barn, staying warm and well-fed. Every morning and evening, Farmer Loren makes the rounds, checking on each animal, topping off hay, and making sure the water troughs aren't frozen over. It's steady, simple work — but it's the backbone of everything we do here.
Our pigs have been a real source of entertainment this month. Even in the cold, they love getting outside to root around in the snow, searching for anything interesting beneath the surface. Watching them dig and explore is a reminder that farm animals are curious, intelligent creatures who thrive when they're given room to be themselves.
We're also starting to plan for the warmer months ahead. Seed orders are coming in, equipment is getting looked over, and we're dreaming about what the garden and fields will look like once the frost breaks. There's always a sense of anticipation this time of year — a quiet excitement that builds as the days get just a little bit longer.
March Comes In Like a Lion... and Goes Out Like a Lamb
