The Newest News
April showers bring May flowers as the saying goes. With that comes the more fair weather that we look forward to with the advent of spring. However; we still find ourselves with some snowy days.
Taking advantage of the more mild weather has allowed us to begin to tackle the many to-do projects for the upcoming year. This includes pressure washing of the combine in preparation of this fall's work.
The emptying of our manure pit is high on the April priority task list. This "liquid gold" will be spread on our many fields in preparation for this year's growing season.
Plans for our hog operation are in place for expansion in the future. It is so exciting that the area school districts want to use our fresh local food for their school's meals. Ortman Farms is proud to participate!

• Sheep have excellent hearing and can detect sounds up to two miles.
• Goats are excellent climbers with their split hooves and muscular legs.
• Interestingly, rabbits have a field of vision that covers nearly 360 degrees. With their eyes positioned high and on the sides of their head they can see predators approaching from various angles, providing them with a greater chance of escape.

Here is a great tasty recipe to use Ortman Farms pork chops with!
Baked Breaded Pork chops
In a large mixing bowl make the bread coating by either using store bought or homemade bread crumbs and mix in salt, pepper, garlic powder and old bay seasoning to taste. Thoroughly coat pork chops with breading mixture after dipping the chops in a whisked egg. Place breaded chops in a baking pan that can comfortably accommodate your pork chops. Bake at 400 degrees farenheight uncovered for 45 minutes. Enjoy!
